Hi I have a question about the solutions from question 2C final exam 2024. Why do we have 3 degrees of freedom as it is a 2D crystal structure?
The number of degrees of freedom is always the number of orbitals in the unit cell. For example, in lecture 8 we considered 1-dimensional crystal structures with 2 degrees of freedom.
Ah so because there are 3 atoms in the unit cell, we have 3 degrees of freedom?
