Lecture 7, Q1

Dear Solid State crew,

I wanted to kindly ask you to see through my attempt on solving the density of states of this system. I do get an answer but the plot of mine is very different than the one in the solutions. Thank you for your time to look through it!

Best,

Anthony

One thing I notice at first glance is that you inverted a sine as an arccosine instead of an arcsine. Could that be the mistake?

In the solutions they do the computation with d\omega/dk, which is simpler and then make use of trigonometric relations to change the cosine for \sqrt{1-\sin^2(...) to be able to use the dispertion relation to change k in favor of \omega. Then you dont need to deal with arcsines. Both methods give the same result, but maybe you find one more to your liking than the other.

Hi Abermejillo,

thank you for the reply, I didn’t invert the sine but I used another expression to express ka as a function of \omega. I will check out the other method!
